Nine Days at the United Nations: The AYVI Network at HLPF 2026

From July 7 to 16, the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF, 2026) convened at UN Headquarters in New York under the theme:

"Transformative, equitable, innovative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future for all."

Delegations from across the globe gathered for in-depth reviews of five SDGs: clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, industry and infrastructure, sustainable cities, and partnerships for the goals, while 36 countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews over the course of the forum.

It was within this global gathering, during the three-day ministerial segment, that the AYVI Network stepped onto the world stage.

July 13: The Global Youth Forum

On the opening day of the ministerial segment, the AYVI Network hosted a side event, The Global Youth Forum, formally introducing the AYVI Network and the AYLF before an audience of government policymakers, UN agency representatives, development institutions, and private sector leaders.

The afternoon unfolded across three panel discussions:

Digital Innovation, Youth-Led Solutions, and Strategic Partnerships, before culminating in the Global Launch itself.

AYVI Network Founder Carolyn Wokoh told the room,

"The future of Africa will not be written for young people. It will be written with them,"

setting the tone for what followed: keynote addresses, the formal introduction of the AYLF's four partnership tiers, and remarks from partners and institutional leaders who have stood with AYVI since its earliest days in Nigeria.

A Forum Built on Partnership

The HLPF's broader theme, coordinated, transformative action toward the 2030 Agenda, echoed throughout AYVI's own programming that day. The AYLF was introduced not as a grant mechanism but as financing infrastructure, built specifically to close the patient-capital gap that has stalled proven youth-led organizations across the continent. That framing found an audience: in the days following the launch, AYVI Network reported partnership commitments from state governments in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal, a newly signed partnership with Amazon Web Services, and expressions of interest across all four AYLF partnership tiers.

What Nine Days at the UN Represents

The HLPF exists to hold the international community accountable to the 2030 Agenda: one forum, one set of reviews, one moment for the world to take stock of how far it has come and how far it still has to go. For the AYVI Network, being present inside that forum, not adjacent to it, was the point. Four years of work built in communities across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones found its way into a room where governments, UN agencies, and global investors were already gathered to talk about exactly the kind of structural, youth-centered change AYVI has spent four years building.

What Comes Next

The HLPF closed on July 15, but for the AYVI Network, July 13 was a beginning, not a conclusion. With commitments across four countries, a signed partnership with AWS, and active conversations underway across all four AYLF investment tiers, the work now turns to converting that momentum into the continental scale the African Youth Leadership Fund was built to support.
